People of the Soil

People of the soil connect us to those who take pride in preserving the top soil of their land. This project documents the portraits of individuals who live in a village named Deurali in the country of Nepal. 80% of the food that is consumed within the village is grown by the people who live there. This means that the entire village works in sync so that they can feed each other. One individual may be growing corn while another is making sure his cattle is well looked after so that they can make money from selling the milk. Soil is the basic foundation which connects every individual in this village. Their livelihood depends on the quality of the Soil.
