Love & Loss

Love & Loss are a series of images exploring emotion and intimacy in portraiture. Three years ago my partner lost her nineteen year old son in very tragic circumstances. I asked her to sit for me for this project and despite her discomfort at being photographed, she agreed. During the shoot I asked her to hold some of her son's possessions, to clear her mind and to picture him. The resulting photographs capture genuine emotion and show an intimacy that is only possible through a connection and trust between photographer and photographed. During the shoot our dog became concerned at her emotional state and jumped up to comfort her. The resulting photograph captured an unposed natural response.
