Strangers Of Southampton
My images are of strangers in and around the streets of Southampton. I wanted to explore this by walking up to strangers and asking if I could take their photograph. This proved to be a challenge. I really had to try my hardest to build up confidence and courage to ask people with the constant fear of rejection.
When asking people I often got the same response: “I don’t know how to pose” however this is what I was looking for, trying to find people who aren’t specifically photogenic. I think this makes the images more interesting.
I think what makes a great portrait is when the photographer tries to capture personality and emotions. Shooting people in this environment gave me a chance as a photographer to interact with people and trying my hardest to get a sense of what makes everyone different.
